Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame - Our Mission

The objective of the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame is to recognize and honour the achievements of Oshawa individuals and teams who have attained prominence and distinction in sports as well as those who have made a major contribution to the development of sport.

Located inside the Tribute Communities Centre, the Sports Hall of Fame plaques and citations are displayed on the main level walls. The 3600 square foot Museum housing artifacts, memorabilia and photographs is also located on this level at the west end behind Section 119. The new Museum location opened officially in the spring of 2008.

The 1982 Oshawa Turul under-16 boys’ Dines-In soccer team was often referred to as “the great team.”Coached by Oshawa Sports Hall of Famer Nick Springer, the core of the team excelled together from 1975 to 1985, but had a particularly dominant 1982 season. In that year alone, the team won the Eastern Canadian championship, the Ontario Cup title, the Ottawa Invitational tournament, and the National Soccer League Cup. The Turul club also finished as finalist at the Canadian National Championship — losing to a British Columbia team in penalty kicks — at the National Soccer League Tournament, and the Chatham New Jersey Invitational Tournament. At the North American Championships, the Oshawa boys finished third and won the Governor General’s Trophy for displaying the most sportsmanship.Over 11 years playing together, the 1966-born players won one national championship, two Eastern Canadian titles, three Ontario Cup tournaments, two Robbie International Tournament crowns and 22 tournament championships all told. In 1985, its final year together, the Turul team won the Paulista Cup in Brazil, defeating a club from Paris, France 3-1 in the final.
